Bertha von Suttner (1843-1914) was an Austrian novelist, pacifist and secretary of Alfred Nobel. She became a leading figure in the peace movement with her publication Lay Down Your Arms! (1892) and was the first female Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 1905.
